The First Modern Museum in Tibet
The Tibet Museum is located southeast of the main entrance of Norbulingka, and is the first museum with modern facilities in Tibet.
The Tibet Museum has the typical Tibetan architectural style and is modernly furnished. It occupies an area of 53,959 m², including the construction area of 23 508 m² . The exhibition area of 10 451 m². The museum consists of four parts: museum halls, office areas, areas for customs and habits, and areas for real estate buildings.
160,000 exhibits can displayed in the Tibet Museum. At present, it has 30,000 exhibits, including the collections of the Administrative Commission for Cultural Heritage in the Tibetan Autonomous Region and Norbulingka, the excavation pieces and the collections of common people. Visitors can get audio-visual instructions in Tibetan, Chinese, English and Japanese.
